30 Seconds to Mars- The Kill
Is it just me or had Jared not quite lost all the weight when this was made? I don't really care. He's still hot.

Lamborghinis and High School
It looked like he had a black eye, but that's beside the point. Then as we were walking back to the car I saw it. Parked right in front of the Lambo store. And it had a freaking Him decal on the gascap! Why is Bam Margera so lame? Not to mention it had dents and shit all over it, poor Italian car. It was kind of funny cause all these jock guys were standing around it talking shit
Don't Talk About Him Unless Yo Want to See Him
Okay, it may not look like a car from the crappy sidekick picture, but
it happens to be Bam Margera's Lambo. There's a really funny story
about this that'll tell you momentarily.

High school reunion
Did I ever mention that David from American Eyes is relly cute? Did I
also mention that he's 3 years younger than me and we went to the same
high school? I'm at On the Rox right now and its a total high
schoolreunion!

Remember the 90's?
Okay, I do have one thing to say. I just received an email for the Velvet Revolver presale and I noticed the picture of Scott Weiland. Is it just me, or did that guy make a deal with the devil to survive the 90's? I love him, but shouldn't he have od'd along with Shannon Hoon and Layne Staley (two other men I adored-go figure)? I don't know when that picture was taken, but I'll bet you anything it wasn't that cold...

Chicks Dig Prog Rock- June Featured Artist 3's Joey Eppard
Chicks dig prog rock. If you know me, you know this is a phrase I often utter. This said, someone tipped me off about a band called 3. They are an amazing Prog band who have toured with the likes of prog veterans Coheed and Cambria. I caught them live at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood on Monday and they blew me away. I'm not a fan of the Knitting Factory main space. It's too loud, but when 3 took the stage I didn't seem to mind too much. Their music is so intricately crafted around Joey Eppard's vocals and guitar that I was smitten. Especially after I e-mailed him some questions and got the answers. I totally have a music crush on him. Here's the Q and A:
Drunk Groupie:I know bands don't like to label themselves, but music journalist love to. So, instead of me deciding, what bands would you put yourselves in the same category with and why? What would you call it? Lately I've been using the term Prog Rock, but by my definition of new Prog Rock, I'd not only be including 3 and Coheed and Cambria, but Mr. Bungle as well.
Joey Eppard:Some one once referred to us as being a modern day classic rock band, we like that one. We also don't mind being called progressive because at least it suggests moving forward musically which is what we aspire to do. Yeah we fit with Coheed and definitely have some things in common with Mr. Bungle. Ultimately we're a collective of individuals and everyone brings there own stylistic influences to the project. That’s what gives us such a dynamic sound and that’s why we tend to reach listeners regardless of there backgrounds.
DG:Now to lump you in to that "Metal" thing...I've been watching all the "Metal" happenings on VH1 this month, so I've been determined to figure out what Metal is and where it's going. Your video's been on Headbangers Ball. When I was in high school it was all Grunge, where do you think Metal's headed now?
JE:I think we're living in an era where Metal has become more and more technical. I mean some of these young drummers out there are just ridiculous in there metal chops. I think the screaming thing has become a bit of a novelty although there are those who do it well and did it b4 it rose to pop prominence. Ultimately, no matter how many notes you can play it still comes down to the song and the melody, regardless of genre.
DG:The crowd was really responsive last night. It was an amazing show. Do you find you're playing to bigger and bigger crowds? Are you getting more groupies?
JE:Yes, our audience is steadily on the rise. The great thing about this band is that we draw people from all walks of life. We have very loyal fans following us from show to show. It amazes me sometimes how far people will drive to see us play.
DG:I'm going to say when, not if, you're the biggest band ever what will your dream stage show be like? Will you go all Pink Floyd with giant, inflatable pigs or keep it toned down and just use the incredible energy you already have?
JE:We are always going to stay true to our art, and stay true to who we are. Should we have the means to push the envelope further, and create a more elaborate show, we definitely aspire to do so. We will do it in our own way, and we will not hide behind smoke and mirrors.
DG:I loved the Alien Angel video and the reference to the movie They Live. (My parents had it on Laser Disc when I was little and i was obsessed with it.) Who came up with the concept, you guys or the director?
JE:I came up with the idea of using They Live. I wanted to portray the concept of a hidden manipulation of our reality. They Live provided a perfect means to do that, with a Sc-Fi twist. The director Chase Pearson was great to work with. We were able to make a fantastic video at a modest cost. I even took it upon myself to design and construct the mask for the alien.

666- Satan's Not All He's Cracked Up To Be
Two things that have been on my mind:
1. I finally read the article about AFI in the new AP. I didn't know AFI was asked to do Curiosa. I'm torn. It makes me sad because I could have been hanging out with Davey that summer, but on the other hand, I was kinda chub so maybe not.
2. I've been watching Breaking the Band: Red Hot Chili Peppers on Fuse. I still have a crush on Anthony Kiedis. I used to have the naked sock poster above my bed and I used to draw pictures of Anthony when I was like 13. That was, unfortunately, a long time ago.

My MTV Movie Awards
I got there right at the cut off of getting in, around 3:30. My first hour or two was spent in the parking garage in a heard of other people whom also had the honor of pit tickets. I'll have to be honest, journalist (hah!) or not, I always feel awkward going places alone. Luckily it didn't really matter what time I arrived as we were then herded through the metal detectors in 3 or 4 different lines. The next couple of hours were spent in the middle of two soundstages at Sony. The casting people tried to separate the crowd of 400-500 people in to four groups. Us AFI fans made it difficult, though. We were the only ones there for a particular reason. Then they kept drilling into us how we had to be enthusiastic or we'd get kicked out. Obviously my other AFI co-horts and myself planned on getting booted right after AFI.
Finally they ushered us all into the soundstage. Unfortunately there was no relief. The soundstage was incredibly hot and when everyone was in they announced they'd be shooting out of order. Christina would be playing first, then the awards, then Gnarls Barkley, and FINALLY AFI. All us AFI fans were SOL!
Once things got started they moved pretty fast. They played a surprisingly good array of videos during the downtime. Fall Out Boy's Dance, Dance, when of course I had to squeal a little. They also played a Secret Machines Video, which was crazy. I was not expecting that at all. My place in the audience was right in the middle of the catwalk, the first place the celebrity presenters stopped. That was kind of cool. Some of my personal favorite highlights were Justin Timberlake (So sue me! He's hot!), who was adorably, slightly shy, but very gracious and Zach Braff, who was so cool to the pit audience, talking to us and getting us hyped up. I don't want to go on and on about my fake Jewish boyfriend, but I really do have a huge crush on him. Mandy Moore is one lucky shiksa!
Finally after what seemed like a million years, well, maybe like a year, they started setting up for AFI. They had an gorgeous, all white set. We were all getting really hyped up, when the production people came out with a box of white shirts, telling us we all had to put one on. Well, I'll do it for AFI. When I noticed Davey was perched at the end of the catwalk part of the stage I could not stop staring! They whole time my eyes were only on him. I'm sure you'll see me acting retarded in that crowd. Just look for the short girl. It looked like it'll translate to a pretty awesome show. I'm not sure where they're getting spliced in, but watch it. They looked amazing. And, no, I won't give you any spoilers.

I (Still) Love Freaks and Geeks
I went to the Mtv Movie Awards yesterday and on the way out I stole
these. It sucked having to explain who they are (Seth Rogen & Judd
Apatow), so if you know who they are I give you major props. And if
you've seen the 40 Year Old Virgin and don't know who they are I suggest
you do some research. Yes AFI played. I have plenty to report on my
day at the MTV Movie Awards, but right now I have to go sew some
sleeves...

Always Willing to Share My Secrets
Date: Jun 2, 2006 12:08 PM
Hey, I was just wondering, how in the world do you get close enough to talk with these bands? I saw your interview with Dir en grey on your guide to life and was just curious. Especially considering they can't even come out until the concert starts considering all of the hysterical fans. So, if you don't mind me asking, what's your secret?
Thanks in advance!
~Christine
My secret is I was affiliated with a local paper, which gave me the precedence to contact press agents. Actually their US press asked me to do this interview. Now I have my blog, which will be blooming into a music website very soon. Stay tuned......
Thanks for the question!
DG
P.S. If you are interested in doing this I highly recommend taking a journalism course. It was one of the best things I've ever done.
From One Groupie to Another
From: Miss Jillian

Hi! I feel that I need some love advice from another groupie. My question is, I'm in love with one of my musician friends. Thing is, he's in a relationship with a psycho bitch who's myspace almost entirely consists of pictures of them, plus I'm in a relationship too. I'm so hot for him and I want to conquer him with real love, because lately, when I see him a shows, he looks kinda sad and depressed and I think it's his bitch that's pussywhipping him. Should I go out and get him?
Hey! Sorry to take so long to get back to you! To answer your question directly, if it will make you happy go for it! Although I am a huge believer in karma, I have learned the hard way that all's fair in love and war and being the good girl gets you absolutely nowhere. That being said, you should probably take the time to weigh your options and decide if you are willing to take this risk. Musicians are not known for their loyalty, blah, blah, blah. Not that it's ever deterred anyone, including Heather Locklear who could have had any man when she married Tommy Lee. I hope that helps!
I'm always here to answer fellow groupie questions...
