Weekend Wrap-Up

Hello Everyone!

I had a super-long action packed weekend as you can prob tell from my Sidekick blog entries!

Friday:

Friday was AFI at Long Beach Arena. I couldn't have had a more perfect evening. As you saw in my pictures, I had a VIP pass. I could say once you've been backstage one place, it's pretty much the same thing everywhere else. I won't say that. There's nothing like knowing you have a backstage pass for your most favorite band in the whole world. It was a little weird not knowing anyone back there, but the people watching was fun and the beer was free (oddly enough since they're all like straight edge). I didn't expect many celebs back there. The only one I spotted was Shane West from ER and the Mandy Moore movie that my sister loves- A Walk to Remember (David Henry from American Eyes also loves that movie). I was kind of hoping for Jared Leto, but no luck. The concert was amazing. It was filmed, so hopefully I'll be able to purchace it in the near future so I can watch it and think to myself, that's the show that I watched AFI from the side of the stage. They sounded great, duh. They even played Missing Frame, which I swear I have never heard them play live. I didn't get to hang out after the show very long. It was kind of far away for me and my date had to get home. I didn't really mind, although I was hoping to invite Davey to my birthday party. Haha! What's worse is I missed him Saturday at Canters by like 10 minutes. Read on.

Saturday:

Saturday was art day. It was a little disappointing. Especially after my big AFI show Friday. First we went to see Neckface's work at New Image. Holy shit! Go see it! It's amazing and all Halloween themed. Then we tried to go to Shepard Fairy's opening. Unfortunately, the line was out the door and whether we could have skipped it or not, we didn't want to squish through the crowd. So we went back to New Image to meet up with a friend from Cardboard Robot. From there we went to Safari Sam's to the Jackass party. Lame! I couldn't get anyone to give me a VIP pass, which pissed me off. Then they almost got shut down. At least they loved enough to let me in to use the bathroom when they were making everyone stay outside. I don't know where any of the Jackass crew was hiding, nor did I particularly care. After that we went to Canters for the end of the Neckface after party thrown by RVCA. I walked in and my friend told me I missed Davey by literally 10 minutes. Dammit! Argh! What's up with that. Then he proceeded to tell me it wouldn't have mattered because he'd be more into him than me. I hate boys.

Sunday:

Yesterday was Summer Strummer. What a bust! I was helping out Blood is the New Black as well as selling my own Ex-Groupie t-shirt line. It sucked. The bands I like didn't suck, of course, but selling shit did.
I watched American Eyes, of course. They were great, as usual. And David hung out for a minute. He had his cute girlfriend with him. At least I think it was is girlfriend. Don't quote me. I don't want to get in trouble.
I also watched Under the Influence of Giants. It was the first time I had seen them and I was very impressed. Aaron Bruno was still a little awkward, but he is definintely growing as a frontman. He still has amazing eyes. Andrew had an amazing porn star look going as well. I was so impressed, that I'm going to put their cd on my nano so I can listen to them while I work out. And I only listen to stuff that really motivates me when I work out.
The last band I actually tok the time to watch was Rooney. I've never been into their music, but I'm fascinated by all Coppolas and Robert is a really adorable one. They were good live. He's an awesome frontman and if you've seen Princess Diaries, he's kinda like his character, although the character wasn't really a stretch, was he? He totally reminds me of his brother Jason Schwartzman, who was there to support his little bro. My only problem is I kept flashing back to the Virgin Suicides as I was watching and I kept giggling to myself. And then I turned into total fan girl as he walked by. I waved and said hi and he said hi and kinda laughed at me. In my defense, I was going on 3 hours sleep.
We also hung out with Emily from Go Betty Go. She's only 19 and she's awesome! She's getting a Snow White sleeve tattooed! I'm so jealous. It's the only Disney tattoo I'd ever get.
