Taste of Exhaustion

I just wanted to post a quick Taste of Chaos update. It was aweosome and it was a long day. I didn't get to speak with As I Lay Dying, but they put on an awesome show. I did speak with Street Drum Corps and they were absolutely charming. I have the biggest crush on Bobby and I was so happy to finally see them live. The show was good, but long. I'm not into girl bands, per say, but being around that much testosterone can be hard. Maybe someday a girl will be in one of the bands playing. No wonder so many girlfriends were around. Hah! Oh and I totally thought American Eyes were playing, but apparently they were already off the tour. I feel really dumb for having sent all those text messages to David now. Oh well. I'll write my mini reviews of the bands I watched tonight. Hopefully the SDC interview will be up tomorrow and speaking of interviews, I'm hoping to have the DEG interview up as well. All this before I go get a new tattoo at True Tattoo (Chris Garver of Miami Ink's studio in LA, but Nick Rodin is doing my Tom Petty logo that will say American Girl) on Saturday.

Spader and Shatner

It's Tuesday night! Boston Legal night!

I'm getting really nervous about my Taste of Chaos interviews. It would be so much easier if I was just going to hang out. I had better go look for some questions to ask the bands...

Making Up For Lost Time

Weekend Recap:

Friday: The 69 Eyes @ The Whiskey 3/24/06

Bam Margera generally has pretty good taste in music. As much as I hate to say it. The 69 Eyes are an awesome band from Helsinki, somewhere between Turbonegro and HIM. I have to admit, I was a little scared when Bam introduced the band and I looked over and saw Carson Daly hanging out, but the 69 Eyes ruled. They have a sense of theatrics that most bands from that part of the world have (see Turbonegro and HIM) and no American band has attempted since the last wave of goth ended. Being a huge Christian Death fan, I was super excited when The 69 Eyes dedicated one of their songs to Christian Death. Especially since the singer sounds just like Roz Williams. The crowd was mostly younger kids, who were very excited to have Bam introduce one of their favorite bands. I'm always happy to see a new genration of eyeliner wearing boys. I bet they get all the cute goth girls. It was also cool to see some of the older kids from the old scene out rocking to a new generation of Death Rock. How can anyone resist a band that sings a song called "Goth Girl"? Not even Carson Daly.

Saturday: Jane Magazine/Keds Party @ Tropicana @ the Roosevelt Hotel 3/25/06

I know that party, hosted by Mischa Barton, has nothing to do with Metal, but it was fun and it's good gossip fodder. When Bunny and I first got there the first people we see are Ryan Cabrerra, with one of the Veronicas, valet parking his Porsche. At least he had a hat on. I don't know how I'd have reacted to the hair. First of all they had one of the best gift bags I've seen in a long time. Two pairs of free shoes, a t-shirt, 2 cds, and Jane Magazine. Thank you Keds and Jane. And if that wasn't enough, they had a totally open bar, which we totally took of advantage of with shots of Patron. The Veronicas played an accoustic set. They're pretty cute and they actually sing, which I can appreciate. We didn't see Mischa Barton until right before we left. She was with some beefhead. I don't really keep up on the gossip about her so I don't know who he was. While we were the we also got a call from one of out friends regarding Max Perlich and Tom Siezmore. Weirdness. And this was all before 9pm.

So, the party ended at nine and we were already totally wasted. We had to go to Beauty Bar to see our friend for his birthday. While we were walking down the street, we apparently walked by Ryan Dunn, who Bunny claims was totally checking me out. I wish. Not because I actually like him (although I do like dirty guys with beards and long hair) but because I totally want to ride in his Trans Am. I love TA's.

Japan Mania

I just wanted to post a quick update. Dir En Grey last night was insane! I was so impressed by their FANS! It's always nice to go see a band where the crowd is enthusiatic and passionate. And the band was so schooled in every style of metal. I was told all about their different "phases" by two girls I met outside who had come down all the way from Oregon! When I met them after the show, they were both cocky, but still reserved. If only American bands could pull that off! The only celebrity sighting was Kelly Osbourne, which was kind of funny because we spotted her right after Groupie Sister Bunny asked why she wasn't there! Full review and INTERVIEW (courtesey of Groupie Sister Bunny) to follow this weekend! Don't forget to check back!

Happy Birthday Captain Kirk!

My first order of business will be to out myself as a closet Star Trek fan. (Only original and Next Generation, though.) And wish Mr.William Shatner, one of my most favorite people alive, a very happy 75th birthday! Everyone should go buy that album he put out a couple of years ago. It's awesome! Look! There's even a link to buy Has Been from Amazon!

My next order of business is to ask everyone for interview questions. In the next few days I'll be interviewing Dir En Grey (Groupie Sister Bunny will be interviewing them, actually), possibly The 69 Eyes, at Taste of Chaos: As I Lay Dying, Street Drum Corps and possibly David from American Eyes if I can find his phone number. I also may be interviewing the Hellacopters on Saturday. If anyone has any questions they've always wanted to ask any of these people feel free to let me know.

I'm really looking forward to all of these shows and interviews. The 69 Eyes are playing at the Whiskey and I haven't been there in ages. I'm not too familiar with them, but they're from Finland, they're hot, and Bam Margera directed one of their videos. Obviously I'm excited about Taste of Chaos. I can't wait to see all the hot boys there. OMG! What if Davey's there?!? That would rule!

Taste of Chaos is too Soon Here's my Preview

The Drunk Groupie’s Picks for Taste of Chaos
3/30/2006 @ Long Beach Arena

Once again it’s that pre-Warped Tour time of year and the same people that bring the Hot Topic set to hot pavements in the summer, draw the kids who like to keep their arms covered to Taste of Chaos. This year’s headliners are the Deftones, but the Drunk Groupie’s chosen her three personal must sees. For better or for worse, here they are:
1. Street Drum Corps: Basically they take Stomp to the “Hot Topic” level. These 3 Jersey dudes just like to bang on things. They won’t be dancing like the guys in Stomp, but I’m betting this show will be even better.
2. As I Lay Dying: I’m planning on asking all the band members if they’ve read the Faulkner book they took their name from. not that I care, I’m just excited that the kids are actually listening to and playing Metal again. And not that Nu Metal rap crap. Real metal. Like the kind we had in the 80’s. And not the hair kind, the good kind. (Plus they’re cute!)
3. American Eyes: They’re just cute. I can’t help it. And they are are so nice and sometimes that trumps everything else. Plus I like to watch all the chubby little Hot Topic goth girls drool over someone I went to high school with. It makes me feel important. Oh, and did I mention they’re cute?
Somehow, I doubt very many of the Record’s readers are actually going, but if you are, keep in mind, sometimes you gotta be cute to rock! And don’t forget to check out www.drunkgroupie.com for interviews with the bands!

Taste of Chaos

Who-hoo! Be sure to keep checking Drunk Groupie for Taste of Chaos Interviews. I've been working very hard to get interviews with some of my favorite bands on this tour. I'll keep y'all posted.

Gallo Groupies Go Bad

So, that "Bunny" who does that Vincent Gallo blowjob blog found my blog and decided to slander my good friend Carlos D. Go there and tell her that Gallo is a talentless hack and Groupies are for real rock stars! Gallo Groupies

Why Am I Stuck In LA?

This weekend was very low-key with everyone away at SXSW. I didn't even go out Friday and Satuday I just ended up at Vine Bar. My friend, Bunny, and I parked the car and had some Sofia Blanc de Blancs before we went into the bar. I was obssessed with the tiny, pink cans of "sparkling wine" that come with their own cute, pink straws. Unfortunately it wasn't that tasty and drinking it with the straws made me kind of nauseous. It was a little too fruity for my taste, but the convenience factor will probably get me to buy the pink drinks again. Plus, they are just too damn cute to resist. Drunk Groupies love champagne. Vine Bar wasn't too exciting. Bunny and I were champagne drunk when we went in and Bunny asked the door guy for her confiscated id back. (She had loaned it to someone last weekend) He actually gave it back to her! Hah! Then we were in the bathroom with Bob Dylan in the background. Bunny hates Bob Dylan. There happened to be a very nice, normal woman in the bathroom with us. "You don't like Bob Dylan?" she asks. Then I blurt out, "She just doesn't like Jews!" When I exited the stall Bunny says, "Do you realize you just told that woman I was anti-semetic?" We just laughed and my response was, "Well didn't she see you come in with a Jew?" I think we offened the nice, normal lady. There wasn't anyone interesting there really. Finally our friend Den shows up totally drunk as usual. He ended up hitting on the singer from the Donnas. And falling down a lot. No wonder his t-shirt line is called "Fuct." Bunny was about to get an important message about what to do next when her battery died. It kind of killed it because I was really in the mood for some party favors. Some really good party favors. Oh, well. It was fun, though. Around last call we took Den home and we all rode in the front of the truck, on the bench seat, trying not to crash the car.

I <3 Andrew WK!

Okay, so like 3 or 4 years ago, right before I moved to NYC I was OBSESSED with Andrew WK. If you don't believe me just look at this: MY AWK FAN SITE Crazy, right? Anyway, he's putting out a live DVD and doing some screenings. The screening here (in LA) is on April 5th at the Knitting Factory. So, being the Drunk Groupie, I wrote to ask for an interview. I couldn't resist. HE TOTALLY SAW MY LAME FAN SITE! Which is a good and bad thing. It got his attention, but I have a secret. I've actually re-met Andrew in NYC with Matt Sweeny (he was in Zwan and Chavez and lots of other bands). He didn't know I was a fan. It's not like I was obvious, I had to be sly because I would have looked like a total ass if I had said anything. Especially considering it was outside of Max Fish. It was kind of weird. Okay, I should just get over it. I don't know what to do, though! Should I say something?

Moving on, I received the Nebula and Hellacopters new cds today. I'm listening to Nebula right now. It's pretty rockin'. I could definintly have a good time at this show. I've been into the Hellacopters for several years now, so I know their cd will be good. I'll probably do a proper review tomorrow night. I'll listen to them on the way home from work tomorrow.

I don't know if I mentioned, but I got Street Drum Corps' album the other day. Some mighty good stuff. I love drummers, so essentially a band that's all drummers really kind of turns me on. It's something different, but also something that fits in with the Taste of Chaos tour. DJ Lethal (House of Pain) produced their album, so it's got sort of a hip hop edge, but not so much that it has to be lumped with Nu Metal. Thank god. Cause they are really kind of cute. Adam is actually in a band called Circus Minor with two guys I went to high school with. Weird. Anyways, I really, really, really want to see them live. They must be so amazing.

I <3 Pearl Jam

I know I'm really going to be dating myself by admitting I remember when Ten was released. Oh well. I loved that album. Not as much as Nevermind or Dirt, but it got it's fair share of play on my stereo. Well, by Vs I was over it. A couple of years ago I tried listening to those live Pearl Jam albums, but I still wasn't really into it. For some reason I have always thought of Pearl Jam as a really important band. Eddie Vedder's politics aside, Pearl Jam made and impact on music history. I just couldn't get myself to like anything past Ten. Then I heard "Worldwide Suicide," their new single. I can tell you based off that song, I will listen to the rest of that album. It's just far enough from grunge, yet still close to their roots to peak my interest. I'm very excited.

Hmmm, what else have I got? I actually got the new Sounds album like two weeks ago. Pretty disappointing. Especially since I loved, loved, loved the first album. The songs all kind of sound alike on this one. I'm kind of over Nordic Pop anyway. Maybe it's because I'm too into metal at the moment. Damone's EP was in the same package. Meh. At least it was rock. It was kind of fun. I don't think I'll be playing it much, though. I'm looking forward to getting the Hellacopter's and Nebula's latest albums in the mail sometime this week.

I still have a couple of things in the works. If anyone cares, it looks like I'll probably be back at Vine Bar this Saturday. It's kind of starting to remind me of NYC. We'll see.

Must Write Everyday!

Last night I had a rather disturbing dream. A certain boy from a certain band with a girl singer who's about to drop a new album was living at my house but he wouldn't have anything to do with me. Then one day he calls me and tells me I'm going to pick him up because he wants to sleep with me that night. Then he tells me he loves me and I'm like, "okay, bye!" Later we were at my childhood home and there was a huge tornado. Everyone made it down to the basement, but upstairs we could hear everything getting destroyed and it was going on forever, but then I finally woke up. When I fell back asleep the same dream came back and I was at work and my sister called to tell me that my brother had dropped off the aforementioned guy, but it was too early and I couldn't leave. Then I woke up again for good.

I think I'm one step closer to the band I'm trying to get for an interview, but I don't want to jinx it. The second I know for sure I'll post it cause its a pretty big show.

Add me on My Space

Hey, just an FYI. I'm created a My Space page just for the Drunk Groupie! Add me!

http://www.myspace.com/drunkgroupie

Not much else is going on. I'm bummed I'm not going to SXSW. But, on the bright side, I've heard from a couple of bands I'm looking forward to interviewing and seeing live, so there is some good stuff coming up even if none of it has to do with SXSW.

Saturday Night's All Right

Well, no one can call the Drunk Groupie a liar. I said I would be going to Vine Bar and indeed I did. Vine Bar seems to be the new Burgundy Room. The new indie rock and roll bar that's bound to be interesting. Well last night one of the guys from Queens of the Stone Age that's not Josh Homme was djing. We all know how much hipsters still love QOTSA. Of course Mr. Homme showed up. From the Wiltern VIP pass on him, it looks like he came from the Goldfrapp show. (Which I am so sad about missing!) This time Brody Dahlle was in tow. I have to give the guy props for not dating an emaciated, blonde model. Brody is all punk rock with maybe a little bit of Courtney Love in her. And I don't mean her singing voice. I was in the bathroom line behind her and her friend and her friend went in the stall and a couple seconds later she pulled Brody in with her. Hmmmm... I'm not going to make any assumptions, but I know why I go into bathroom stalls with my friends. So, I'm quickly getting more drunk, and the bar is quickly filling up. I'm at the bar looking up at the DJ booth when I spot someone who looks just like Meg White. I thought I must've been wasted because I have no idea why Meg White was there, but it was, in fact, Meg White. The Drunk Groupie was definintly living up the her reputation. I saw Norman Reedus at the bar and once again, I thought my eyes must be playing tricks on me. I haven't seen him since I moved back from NYC. A sure way to tell if someone is drunk is to see how forthcoming she can be. As the Boondock Saints star and Helena Christianson baby daddy walked by me, I pulled him aside and to remind him that we met in NYC and he knows some of my friends. He invited me upstairs, but I was waiting for a friend and when we went up the gross smoking room, it was way to dark to see anyone and when I finally found him he was on his way out. At that point, I was way too wasted to stay at the bar. As I was walking outside I caught a final glimpse of Josh Homme with Brody hanging all over him, but when we drove by, he was chatting up some other bird.

Groupie Update

Well, I've never made any claim to be a good blogger. And for that reason, I have several things to discuss:

1. Jared Leto is fat now.

30 Seconds to Mars update e-mail:

Due to an unfortunate accident this morning, we regret to inform you that we will have to re-schedule the first two shows of the tour to a later date...

Our beloved bassist Matthew Walter Wachter, cut his finger to the bone requiring a visit to the hospital... He will be just fine, but needs a little extra time to heal....

On a side note our favorite lead singer just finished shooting on thursday night and has started a fast to help him lose the 62 lbs he gained for his role in the film "Chapter 27"... While we were resting, rehearsing and preparing for Forever Night Never Days, Jared was force feeding himself and transforming into Mark David Chapman, John Lennons killer. Now that the film is completed we are all together preparing for what will be an amazing next few months...

We are so excited to see you all again very soon. This tour is going to be unforgettable!!!

Note: It says Jared Leto GAINED 62 LBS for the John Lennon movie! Oh my god. If anyone has fat Jared Leto pictures please let me link them to my blog! I am dying to see this tour just to see if he managed to lose all the weight without becoming another Rene Zellweger and totally going overboard. It does say he's been fasting in order to lose weight afterall.

2. My Chem is recording in LA!

In an update e-mail from My Chem:

Plus, when you pre-order, you're automatically entered to win a trip LA for you and a friend (or parent) to hang out with My Chemical Romance while they are recording their new albuy for a dat this May. No foolin'.

I know what I'm doing in May! If anyone spots Gerard and company please, please, please let me know. I need to make contact!

3. American Eyes on Steven's Untitled Rock Show

I'm actually sitting here watching this right now. Since it's Taste of Chaos Weekend, this show will be on all weekend. And I'm not one to hide the fact that I love seeing people I know on TV so I can talk about it. I went to high school with David and if you watch he actually admits he's from Agoura. It's awesome. He's a really sweet and talented guy. He deserves the attention. He asked me to come down to be in the Radio video, but watching it, I would have been like the oldest kid there. And that's just too weird to me. I can't wait to hang out with American Eyes when they get back!

4. AFI is playing Warped Tour?!?

I thought I would be proactive and take a look at the Warped Tour web site to see who's playing. Evidently AFI has been confirmed. Oh man. I need to get in to this one even worse than last year when My Chem played. Anyone know anyone who can get me into this one? I work for a legitimate publication. I swear!

5. Metal is the new Punk

This just in. As I Lay Dying confirms that Metal is the new Punk and it's taking over San Diego. Anyone up for a road trip? I need to check this out.

I guess that's about it for now. I'm thinking about going to Himsa tomorrow, but I can't decide. You'll hear if I do, though.
